Home Repair Tips
Simple fixes can prevent bigger (and more expensive) problems. Here are practical home repair tips you can use today—plus signs it’s time to call a pro.
1) Stop small leaks fast
A dripping faucet or running toilet can waste water and cause damage. Replace worn washers/flappers and keep an eye on under-sink connections.
2) Seal gaps to save energy
Add weatherstripping around doors and caulk around windows to reduce drafts. It’s one of the cheapest upgrades with a big comfort payoff.
3) Patch drywall the right way
For small holes, use spackle and a putty knife. For larger holes, use a patch kit or a small drywall piece, then tape, mud, sand, and prime before painting.
4) Prevent mold in bathrooms
Run the exhaust fan during and after showers, and re-caulk tubs/showers when you see cracking or peeling. Moisture control is key.
5) Fix sticking doors
Tighten hinge screws first. If the door still rubs, check for loose hinges, swollen wood from humidity, or a shifted frame.
When to call a pro
Electrical issues (burning smell, frequent breaker trips, buzzing outlets)
Water stains on ceilings/walls or repeated leaks
Roof damage, structural cracks, or anything that may require permits
